Pakistan Cricket’s horror run in 2023 debars them from ICC Team of the Year’s list

Pakistan had a win percentage of less than 60 in all three formats of the game.

The Pakistan cricket team has many stars in it. Despite having Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Naseem Shah on their side, their performance in 2023 was lackluster, to say the least. Their whirlwind year has seen no player from their team make the ICC Test, ODI, or T20I team.

A year that saw them bow out of the ODI World Cup 2023 with just four wins and a surprising loss to Afghanistan. The Pakistan cricket team ended the year with a 56% in ODIs, 40% in Tests, and 36% in T20Is. Not only this, they lost Babar Azam as their skipper and Naseem Shah for the last four months of the year.

With these results, it isn’t exactly a shock that big names like Babar and Shaheen failed to make the cut.

Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Rizwan record in 2023

Talking about players with the most runs in 2023, Babar stands at the 14th spot with 1399 runs in 35 matches, while Rizwan is at the 18th spot.

In the bowling department, only Shaheen stood tall. He ended 2023 as the 5th highest wicket-taker with 62 wickets in 30 matches. But he had a poor backend of the year, with a noticeable drop in his speed and a visible knee issue.

This, combined with their not making the World Test Championship Final or the semifinal at the ODI World Cup, has seen them not make any ICC Team of the Year for 2023.
