Defending champs England announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming 2023 World Cup. In a blow for the Three Lions, express pacer Jofra Archer is not part of the England camp. Jos Buttler and Co. will kickstart their campaign against the finalists of the last time New Zealand in the opening match of the tournament. Recently, England completed a dominating win over New Zealand in a 4-match series against the Kiwis.
Apart from Jofra, Jason Roy is also not part of the squad
England Men’s National Selector, Luke Wright, said: “We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup. “We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.
“The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad,” he added. However, skipper Buttler had hinted that Roy can still make a comeback during the middle-phase of the competition.
As mentioned above, the defending champs England recently defeated New Zealand in a bilateral series as the home side completely dominated the visitors. Dawid Malan was the star with bat for the Three Lions. Former England skipper Ben Stokes also looked in excellent touch with the bat as Buttler and Co. will look to repeat their antics from 2019.
