Nitish Reddy & Washington Sundar ahead of Ashwin-Jadeja in all-rounder race for Pink ball Test

Team India all-rounders Nitish Reddy and Sundar looked in good touch in the warm-up game ahead of the pink ball game at Adelaide

It looks like India is all set to bench Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for IND vs AUS 2nd Test as well. The veteran duo warmed the bench in the 1st Test in Perth and did not take the field in the warm-up game against the PM’s XI either. Both Reddy and Sundar enjoyed a brilliant outing with the bat as the two went on to score 42 runs each. While Reddy made his Test debut in the 1st game against Australia, Sundar has reaped rewards for his consistent performances, with both bat and ball, in red-ball cricket.

Nitish Reddy-Sundar beat Jadeja-Ashwin to secure spots in XI?

Nitish Reddy and Sundar looked in good touch ahead of the pink ball game at Adelaide. The duo scored 42 runs each with the bat in quickfire fashion. It is almost certain that India will continue to bench Jadeja and Ashwin in the IND vs AUS 2nd Test at Adelaide, given that the game will be a day-night affair. Besides, Reddy – who tasted success on his Test debut in Perth – especially with the bat, is all but sure to be a part of India’s starting XI in the 2nd Test. Both Sundar and Reddy were a part of the 1st Test in Perth as well while the veteran duo of Ashwin and Jadeja warmed the bench.

India would prefer to go with Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar for the 2nd Test, given the pink-ball challenge that they would be up against. With an all pace attack on cards, India are much better off with fielding Nitish Reddy in the playing XI instead of picking Ashwin or Jadeja. Sundar’s ability to bowl at quicker speeds, in addition to his batting, makes him a frontrunner to secure a spot in the XI for the 2nd Test.

India are already 1-0 up in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, courtesy of a 295-run win against Australia in Perth. Rohit Sharma and co. will look to retain the winning combination for the next Test at Perth, with the only exceptions being the return of the skipper and their number three batter.
