New Hardik Pandya in the making? Nitish Reddy slams his maiden fifty against the PBKS

Smashing five sixes and four fours, SRH's Reddy played an impactful innings of 64 off 37 balls in the IPL against Shikhar Dhawan's led Punjab Kings.

As IPL tradition goes, which is to throw emerging players deep into the water and nurture their talents, we saw the same thing in the recently held match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. An uncapped Indian bowling allrounder, SRH’s Nitish Reddy, played an impressive knock of 64 off 37 balls.

The 20-year-old all-rounder from Andhra Pradesh showcased a glimpse of how deadly he can be if he gets more chances in the Indian Premier League. While a fast-bowling all-rounder is always an asset for the team, let’s see Reddy’s stats in T20s to date and find out how good he is.

Reddy was bought by SRH in the 2023 IPL auction for a price of 20 Lakhs, but he got an opportunity to play in just 2 games last season. While last season was not impressive for him ,he didn’t make any noteworthy starts to his IPL career.

However, things are going decently well this time. Having played just 4 games, he is getting enough chances as a batter and is utilizing the opportunities with a strike rate of 162, consistently striking the bowlers.

Comparison with Hardik Pandya!

As mentioned earlier, fast-bowling all-rounders have been an asset and a rare breed. Since India is already short of fast-bowling all-rounders, Nitish Reddy is a blessing in disguise for India.

However, he has only played a few matches in the IPL and in T20 cricket. In the limited opportunities he has had, he has primarily made his mark as a batter, while his bowling performances are not up to par in the shortest format of the game.

Although he has taken 52 wickets in first-class cricket and has an impressive bowling economy of 3.22, a comparison with Hardik Pandya might be unfair to Nitish Reddy. However, considering the impact he is making in first-class cricket and in the IPL, he might be a future star all-rounder in the making for India.
