Nicholas Pooran makes DC pay for dropped catch, goes on a rampage against Tristan Stubbs to start IPL 2025

Pooran was 17 (6) when Sameer Rizvi dropped him at backward point.

Nicholas Pooran was at his destructive best against the Delhi Capitals (DC). In Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the West Indian thrashed a 24-ball fifty. But that wasn’t the highlight of his innings.

Nicholas Pooran destroys Tristan Stubbs

The big moment of the DC vs LSG match came in the 13th over of the match when Pooran took Tristan Stubbs on and smashed 4 sixes and 1 four in the over.

DC captain Axar Patel has given the part-time off-spinner an over after his bowlers weren’t doing the trick. The move seemed to work at first, as Stubbs bowled a dot to start. But then Pooran hit the Protean player for four consecutive sixes, two at long on, one at long off, and one at deep square leg. Pooran finished the over with a down-the-ground four, taking Stubbs to 28 runs in one over.

Costly reprieve from Sameer Rizvi

However, all of this came out due to Sameer Rizvi dropping Pooran when he was batting at 17 (6). Having just come out to bat, he was dropped by the 21-year-old off the bowling of debutant Vijrap Nigam. The catch wasn’t difficult, but Rizvi totally botched an easy chance.

From there on, Pooran went on a blitzkrieg. In the next 24 balls, the southpaw scored 58 runs. Going at almost 2.5 runs per ball. If not for an incredible ball that reverse swung from Mitchell Starc, Pooran would have gone on and scored his maiden IPL hundred and the first century of the 2025 season.
