New Zealand Tour of India: Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has asked important questions as selectors ignored Varun Chakaravarthy and Rahul Chahar. He called the decision unfair and the selectors should give a clear statement to these youngsters for their axe. Follow India vs New Zealand LIVE updates on Insidesport.in
“Rahul Chahar will be wondering what he has done that he is not in this 16-man squad. He was good enough to be in the T20 World Cup squad. He got one opportunity and gave away 7.5 runs per over. He will certainly be wondering what he did wrong. And I hope that someone from the selection committee will actually tell him why is he not in the squad,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.
“Varun Chakaravarthy needs to be told why he wasn’t picked in the squad. Unless of course, he is injured, and we don’t know about it. Only if someone tells them the exact reason, so that they can go back and work on their shortcomings and come back stronger. That will be the only way Indian cricket will get stronger,” he added.
- Varun Chakaravarthy played three matches ahead of R Ashwin in T20 World Cup. He remained wicketless. He was dropped to the bench or final two fixtures.
- Rahul Chahar had featured in a lone match against Namibia. His bowling figure was 0/30 and subsequently dropped to India A squad.
- Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar welcomed the return of star bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar.
“They (Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar) have been proven performers. Them coming back, with the experience they have, will certainly strengthen the Indian team,” he stated further.
- Yuzvendra Chahal had failed to make it to India’s squad for T20 World Cup despite picking joint-most wickets by a spinner in IPL 2021.
- Deepak Chahar was named in the reserve list of players despite his ability to swing.
