New Zealand currently tops the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The Kiwis have jumped to the top spot after their 281 run win against South Africa. This big leap by New Zealand will cause a big problem for the Indian Cricket Team. Rohit Sharma and Co will be aiming to topple the Black Caps by clinching the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series.
New Zealand now has the highest point percentage of 66.6%. On the other hand, Australia is positioned second and India third. Now the dynamics for India to take the top spot is very simple. India will have to win the remainder of the matches of this series. Along with hoping New Zealand lose the second Test match against the Proteas.
Even if India wins the series 4-1, India won’t top the charts. In fact, India will take the second spot in the standings. New Zealand winning the 2nd Test against second string Proteas squad means they top the standings.
However, the dynamics take an abrupt turn in favour of India. New Zealand are slated to play 2 Test matches against Australia. If the kiwis draw or lose the first Test, India tops the standings. But a draw won’t be enough. If Kiwis draw the first and win the second, they remain on top.
For India, the job is straight and simple. Win the IND vs ENG Test series 4-1, and expect 2 draws in the AUS vs NZ Test series. In such a condition, neither New Zealand or Australia can take the top spot of the WTC Standings.
