New World Record! Zimbabwe fall 6 runs short of 350 mark, post 344/4 in T20 World Cup qualifier vs Gambia

It was only earlier this month when Team India almost breached the 300-run mark when they hammer 298 runs in a T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

Yes, you read the headline right! Zimbabwe have created a world record in T20I cricket, hammering a mountainous 344/4 runs in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier match. Playing a Group B clash against Gambia, the Sikandar Raza-led side tormented the Gambian bowlers. Opener Tadiwanashe Marumani was the wrecker-in-chief at the start, scoring 62 runs in just a matter of 19 balls. He struck at an insane rate of 326.31.

Sikandar Raza’s Zimbabwe create world record!

As many as 27 sixes were hit during this memorable Zimbabwean assault that also saw 30 fours during the 120 balls. This means as many as 282 runs were scored only via boundaries! Brian Bennett, the talented southpaw, started with a bang, scoring 50 runs in 26 balls. He stitched a blazing opening stand of 98 runs with Marumani. Dion Myers was the only one who missed out, scoring just 12 off 5. Then came the main man – Sikandar Raza. The Zimbabwe captain was not amongst runs prior to this game but jeez he clubbed those big ones. Striking at 309.3, Raza hammered 7 boundaries and 15 sixes to remain unbeaten at 133 off 43.
