The India women’s cricket team is one step away from securing a spot in the semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. have been on fire in the ongoing tournament, having won two out of two matches and topping Group A. India will face either Thailand or Bangladesh in the semi-finals
Bangladesh headache for India women?
India have found a new rival in the form of Bangladesh in women’s cricket. The two sides last met during a five-match T20I series in April where Harmanpreet Kaur and co handed the neighbours a 5-0 thrashing. Batting ace Smriti Mandhana, skipper Kaur and Radha Yadhav had memorable outings in the series, with letting the bat and the ball do the talking.
Cut to July, the two sides could potentially lock horns yet again. Bangladesh managed to get their first win of the tournament after defeating Thailand women’s team by 7 wickets. With Sri Lanka having already topped the group, it is imperative for Bangladesh to get wins in their remaining fixtures in order to fancy a spot in the semi-final.
A minnow challenge ft. Thailand
The other opponent that India could face in the semis are Thailand. The Asian side, like Bangladesh, have won only one match in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 so far. Their win against Malaysia is the only positive for the side. However, they find themselves in prime position along with Bangladesh in terms of making it to the semi-final. With one game left under their belt, Thailand will have to ensure they will emerge victorious.
Unlike against Bangladesh, India don’t have a rivalry of sorts with Thailand as both sides have taken on each other in fewer occasions. However, India will not take the Thai challenge lightly, if the team makes it to the semi-final.
