India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that he will be moving to the top-order for the IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test. Having dropped Shubman Gill for the Melbourne Test, the Hitman will now be India’s new number three batter. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is all set to continue opening the innings for India along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Rohit Sharma is India’s new number 3 for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test
Earlier on Wednesday, reports had suggested that India could potentially drop Shubman Gill despite the captain throwing his weight behind the batter to do well in Australia. Rohit will now return to the top-order where he will be faced with yet another challenge as he continues to bat at positions where he isn’t used to. Sharma has only managed to score 19 runs so far in three innings and will be hoping to break free from the shackles of poor form.

KL Rahul, India’s best batter so far in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will continue to open the innings. The Karnataka star has faced more deliveries that any other Indian batter in the series and has looked promising since the 1st Test in Perth. His partner Yashasvi Jaiswal will have to pull up his socks and start firing after failing on three occasions in Adelaide and Brisbane.
For the unaware, Gill was asked to bat in the middle-order before he was slotted at number three, but the youngster vehemently denied batting in the middle-order. Following this, the management dropped him from opener to one down.
