The second Test between India and England at Vizag saw the hosts winning the toss, and electing to bat first. The English team is coming on the back of a solid win against the Indians in the first Test at Hyderabad, but skipper Ben Stokes feels, it won’t be easy to replicate the feat.
He reflected on the team’s outstanding victory in the first Test but emphasized the need to swiftly shift focus for the upcoming matches in the series, particularly anticipating India’s strong comeback.
“It was a great last week. But we’ve got that out of our minds, and need to concentrate on this week. And we know that India is going to come back hard. So new game new week.” said Ben Stokes following the toss.
“To come from behind, like we did is obviously a very pleasing lens to end up on the right side the of the results, obviously great for us. We will obviously take the confidence out of that into this week. But as I’ve just said, you know, it’s a new week, we’ve got to start again”
With a young side, Stokes recognized the continuous learning experience, especially in challenging conditions and before enthusiastic crowds in India for the young players, contributing to their long-term growth.
“I think coming out to India, was an experience in itself. It’s an amazing atmosphere to play in front of the the noise, the love that the fans have for cricket out here. It was a great experience in itself. And you know, I think the the opportunities that get presented to guys at such a young age and at the start of their career is only going to do them great in the long term.”
Addressing injury concerns, Stokes mentioned the inclusion of Jimmy Anderson as a replacement for Leach, highlighting the team’s adaptability in the face of challenges.
