There was a lot of chatter around KL Rahul‘s batting position before the start of the Champions Trophy, since he was made to bat at No. 6 in the IND vs ENG ODI series. And that has continued in the ICC event as well, which has managed to raise some eyebrows. For a player who started out in the Indian team as an opener, to becoming a No. 5 batter, KL Rahul has gone through a long journey.
KL Rahul, the Ultimate Team Man
A couple of days before the IND vs NZ match in Dubai, during the pre-match conference, Rahul opened up on his frequent changing positions. He admitted that it is not the easiest job in the world to do, but then one has to take the bullet for the team. “Never easy for anyone in the team to move places. But that’s how the game goes,” he said on being asked the question.
Meanwhile, Rahul has a stellar record in the ODIs, where in 82 matches, he has scored 2944 runs at an average of 48. In fact, he has an even better record at No. 5, a spot Axar Patel has been given in the current setup. For the record, he has 1299 runs at the position, at an average of 56, in 31 innings.
India in Semis of Champions Trophy 2025
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s India has already qualified for the semis of the Champions Trophy, with a group game still in hand. Till now they have been clinical, and posted easy wins against Bangladesh and Pakistan, ousting both of them from the competition on the way. IND vs NZ is scheduled to take in Dubai on March 2, and the winner of that match will take the top spot in the Group.
