Eden Gardens pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee has claimed that he wasn’t approached by any KKR player or official about pitch requirement. His defensive remarks come after he was slammed for denying Rahane & co. “home advantage” in the game against RCB. The KKR curator has categorically stated that he never denied the team anything and had prepared the surface as per BCCI’s guidelines.
KKR curator defends self after facing flak
Speaking to Sports Tak, the Eden Gardens curator claimed that he was only asked how the pitch will behave on the eve of the clash and that no demand was made. Mukherjee claimed that he shared a cordial relation with KKR and that he never denied the team anything.
“No official or player asked for the pitch requirement for the first match. A coach at the time of practice asked me about the behaviour of the pitch. I said ghumega bhi aur accha chalega,” the KKR curator said.
“I never denied anything to KKR. We have been in good relations for a long time. I prepared the pitch as per BCCI guidelines. Those who are accusing me know nothing,” he added.
What KKR’s curator had said
Following the KKR vs RCB, IPL 2025 tournament opener, the home side captain had remarked that the team would love to see a surface helping the spinners. However, Mukherjee – who is known for his vociferous nature – had retorted saying that the pitch will not change as long as he is in-charge.
“As long as I’m here, Eden Gardens pitch will not change. As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge, the pitches here have been like this. RCB) spinners took four wickets between them. What did the KKR spinners do?,” the Eden Gardens curator had remarked after KKR’s loss to RCB.
