The Netherlands needed a solid win against Sri Lanka, and also hope that Bangladesh lost against Nepal, so that they could qualify for the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup. But both the scenarios didn’t happen as BAN won against NEP by 21 runs, and then SL won vs NED by a massive 83 runs. And with that stupendous show by the Lankans, the Super 8 line-up for Group A is — India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Australia.
SL vs NED, As it Happened
In the last match of the Group D, Sri Lanka, after batting first, posted a massive 201 runs on the board. After losing opener Pathum Nissanka early, Kusal Mendis scored a quickfire 46 from 29. Charith Asalanka was mighty effective with the bat and managed 46 from 21 only. Angelo Mathews also chipped in with 30 from 15. On the other hand, Netherlands bowlers were largely ineffective. Aryan Dutt was the best bowler for them, who returned with figures of 1/23.
As far as the chase is concerned, Netherlands were poor in the chase. Nuwan Thusara was excellent once again and bagged 3/24. Matheesha Pathirana also bagged 2/12 in his three overs to dismiss the opposition for 118.

Wanindu Hasaranga Shines
Perhaps the performance of the day came from Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga, who had a good game with the bat and the ball. His 6-ball 20 gave a late surge for their innings, to take them over 200. And when it came to bowling, he delivered a knockout punch to the Netherlands with 2/25 in fours overs.
