Former India skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has had his say on the Ishan Kishan fiasco. The southpaw was axed from the BCCI Central Contracts for 2023-24. Ganguly has claimed that BCCI top brass, Roger Binny and Jay Shah needs to speak with Ishan Kishan.
Previously Ganguly claimed that he was surprised as to why Kishan didn’t play any domestic matches. Ishan Kishan left Team India midway during the South Africa tour. Since then he remained unavailable. Despite being asked to play Ranji Trophy, Kishan turned to deaf ears.
“For someone like Ishan Kishan, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, president Roger Binny and the selectors need to speak to him. All this while he has played Ranji and then played white-ball cricket. Has it made him a poorer player? It hasn’t,” Sourav Ganguly told The Times of India.
“All the players picked in Delhi Capitals have played Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. Even Ishant Sharma has played Ranji,” Ganguly added.
Both Jay Shah and Rahul Dravid asked Ishan Kishan to play domestic cricket. But with Kishan not paying heed, he was dropped from the BCCI Central Contracts. Now Ganguly claims that the BCCI top brass should speak with Kishan to clear the air. He further claimed that Kishan can play both red ball and white ball cricket as they don’t clash with each other.
while remaining aloof, Ishan Kishan practiced with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya at the Kiran More Academy in Baroda. He recently took part in the DY Patil Trophy. The south paw continues his preparation for IPL 2024.
“They can play both red-ball and white-ball. IPL career can happen along with stint in first-class cricket. They don’t clash. First-class cricket finishes and then there’s almost a month before the IPL starts. I don’t see any problem. A lot of the top quality players play Test cricket and white-ball cricket,” Ganguly concluded.
