Need to be realistic, tough task: Karun Nair doesn’t rule out Vidarbha’s chance to beat Mumbai

Ranji Trophy: Ahead of Day 5 of Ranji Trophy Final, Karun Nair doesn't rule out Vidarbha's chances to beat Mumbai

The war isn’t lost yet. Vidarbha is keen to fight. The initial battle might have been lost but Karun Nair and co believes that Vidarbha still has a chance to stage a comeback on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy Finals. After a couple of early wickets, Karun Nair and skipper Akshay Wadkar slammed dual fifties to remain in contention for the fight.

Taking the game to Day 5, Vidarbha needs to score 290 runs with just 5 wickets remaining. Skipper Akshay Wadkar is still unbeaten on 56. However, Vidharbha will surely thank a great anchoring knock from Karun Kair who stitched a crucial knock of 74 runs.

“I think we need to be realistic. It’s a tough task, but if I can say something about this team, it’s that they never give up and they show character at each time that they are put down,” said Karun Nair after stumps on Day 4.

Not being overconfident, Nair pointed out that his side has a tough job on their hands. But surely the job isn’t impossible. He spoke highly of his side claiming that the side has shown character to fight.

“We wanted to just keep batting as long as we can. We always knew that if we both (with Wadkar) kept the partnership going, the runs would keep flowing. We just had to put our heads down and bat out the sessions. I could have taken many chances, but it was at the cost of what. The thought process was just to bat and not give them any chances. You never know. Like I said, if I had kept batting, and (if we) had been 280 behind, you never know what could have happened tomorrow,” Nair concluded.
