Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour has backed batters Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer amid duo’s poor run of form.
Talking to reporters ahead of IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Rathour said that the likes of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer deserve patience.
“There are young batters in our team who have not played much Test cricket. So, we need to be a bit patient with them. Batters like [Shubman] Gill, [Yashasvi] Jaiswal and [Shreyas] Iyer will eventually start getting big runs, I’m sure of it,” Rathour said at the press conference in Visakhapatnam.
Both Shubman and Shreyas failed to make a mark in the opening Test which India lost by 28 runs, While Gill registered 23 & 0 in two innings, Iyer managed 35 and 13 in both innings of Hyderabad Test.

Rathour also admitted that the Indian batters lacked discipline in the second innings and emphasised that the players need to back their strengths.
“Could they have batted with more discipline? Maybe they could have. That’s what they need to decide and come up with their plans,” he further added.
“But, they need to score runs by playing their shots, as you need to back your strengths. Batting is always about scoring runs. It’s not about not getting out but how many runs you put on the board,” the 54-year-old said.
The second Test of the 5-match Test series will begin on February 2.
