Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has opined that India will need 20-30 more runs on Day 2 to pose a challenge to South Africa in IND vs SA 1st Test.
It was a tough day for Indian batters on a challenging pitch as they were reduced to 121/6 before KL Rahul’s unbeaten fifty pushed visitors total to 208/8 on Day 1.
After the day’s play, Gavaskar praised KL Rahul’s gritty knock and said that another 20-30 runs to India’s total will give bowlers a chance.
“India need another 20-30 runs and if India dismiss South Africa for 260 or so, India do have a chance. If SA score 300 or more, then it’s difficult”, Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Former South African all-rounder, Shaun Pollock also backed Gavaskar’s opinion and said that 250 can be defended on Centurion pitch.
“Key will be KL Rahul tomorrow. If India score 50-60 more, it will be difficult. SA have to come back quickly. As soon as you get the sunshine, the surface will be changed. You can defend 250 on this pitch”, Pollock added.
