The assignment for the India Cricket Team will be the tour of England in the summer. After the conclusion of the IPL 2025, the attention will switch to the 5 Test matches. Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu has asked Gautam Gambhir to use his special ICC Champions Trophy weapon against the Three Lions.
After the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), Team India will kick start the new WTC cycle with 5 Test matches in England. India’s last win over England in Test series came way back in 2007. Sidhu is now determined that India can come out on top. And he has asked Gambhir to use Varun Chakravarthy in the series.
Use Mystery Spinner against England
Sidhu explained that English batters are very vulnerable to mystery spinners. He cited the example of Varun Chakravarthy who was instrumental in India’s success in the Champions Trophy in Dubai. He claimed the inability of the English batters to read his bowling will be a huge asset for Team India.
“Mystery spinners are England’s weakness. It’s a swollen nerve for England. Will you leave out Varun Chakravarthy? No, you will have to play him. Or you will play Kuldeep Yadav with his high-end deliveries from both ends, they can’t read him,” Sidhu told Sports Today.
Varun Chakravarthy was a class apart in the ICC tournament. He played just 3 matches where he managed to bag 9 wickets. But it remains to be seen if he is selected for the red-ball tour given he has played just a single First Class game way back in 2018.
As per reports, Gautam Gambhir has been asked by the BCCI to devise a plan for the England tour. Meanwhile, Gambhir will accompany India A who will tour England during IPL 2025.
“Gambhir has been in discussions with the BCCI since he returned from Australia. He has expressed his desire to travel with the India ‘A’ team to get a clearer view of the reserve pool. With India winning the Champions Trophy after Gambhir’s insistence for certain wild card players, one may expect him to assert more in future,” a BCCI source told Times of India.
