The ugly spat between Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq was one of the most talked-about Indian Premier League 2023 moments. Naveen, who plays for the Lucknow Super Giants, and Virat Kohli got into a furious altercation during a game, which nearly spiralled out of hand. Later, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir also got involved. Following the incident, both Kohli and Naveen posted cryptic stories on their Instagram accounts that appeared to be digs at one another. And although Kohli has mostly gone over the event, the same cannot be said of Naveen.
Two months after the infamous incident in Lucknow, Naveen again shared a cryptic reel depicting a folktale about a tiger and a donkey squabbling. The quote towards the end of the video reads: “The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. There are people who no matter how much evidence we present to them, are not in the capacity to understand, and others are blinded by ego, hatred, and resentment, and all they want is to be right even if they are not.”
The post comes not long after Naveen said that Kohli began the altercation. The Afghan pacer had accused Kohli of being to responsible for the incident, claiming that the former India captain had “forcefully” grabbed his hands following the game. “He shouldn’t have said all those things during the match and after it. I didn’t started the fight. After the match, when we were shaking hands, Virat Kohli started the fight,” Naveen told BBC Pashto in an interview last month.
What happened between Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq?
The incident took place at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow during the match between RCB and KL Rahul’s LSG. Naveen and Kohli got into a heated argument after the visitors won the game. The altercation intensified when Kohli and Gambhir began to argue as other players interfered to keep them apart.
Kohli, Gambhir, and Naveen were heavily penalised for violating the IPL code of conduct following the incident. While Naveen-ul-Haq lost 50% of his match money for his Level 1 transgression, Kohli and Gambhir were each fined 100% of their match fees after being found guilty of a Level 2 infringement.
