England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has now confirmed that she missed the first T20I against Pakistan because she underwent egg-freezing treatment. The procedure involved harvesting and freezing a woman’s eggs so she could have children at a later date.
Speaking further about this on the Under the Lid podcast, Nat Sciver Brunt said, ‘Katherine and I would love to start a family, but I’d also love to keep playing cricket. I’d like to carry a baby when I finish playing cricket, and I think Katherine would like to carry a baby as well. We are lucky in that we have more options than one. We’re just working out the best way for us to go about it.’
Katherine Sciver-Brunt on Nat’s comeback
Former England pacer Katherine Sciver-Brunt, who married Nat in May 2022, was also part of the podcast. She mentioned that ‘they had begun to explore the process because there is a timeframe on how fertile you can be, with Nat, 31, hoping to be involved in the 2028 Olympics before making any further decisions on when to have children’.
Talking about Nat, Katherine mentioned, ‘If Nat were 24, she might want to have a child, then come back and play. At 31, it’s on the verge,’ Katherine said. ‘Freezing the eggs now and having healthy eggs to come back to – it’s great to be able to have that choice because it’s not cheap and very invasive.
