It will be a repeat of the 2003 World Cup final as India will face five-time champions Australia in the ICC World Cup final on Sunday (November 19). India are on a 10-match winning streak, while Australia are on an eight-match winning streak. One of the team’s winning streaks will come to an end in the epic finale in Ahmedabad. In the league stage of the WC, India defeated Australia, but the Aussies are a completely different beast in the knockouts. Hence, all eyes will be on the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch.

With reports circulating that India will prepare a spin-friendly pitch for Pat Cummins & Co, it would be interesting to see who will have upper-hand bowlers or batters. If the pitch will indeed favour spin, then India will slightly have the upper hand. Australia choked against South Africa, facing spinners in Kolkata. Even Steve Smith and Labuschange, who are two good players of spin struggled to get going.

If India really prepares a spin-friendly pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium, then there will be another low-scoring game on the cards, as it happened during the IND vs AUS first game in the group stage of WC in Chennai.

Equal battle at Narendra Modi Stadium?

So far, four matches have been played in Ahmedabad in this edition of WC. Barring the first game between NZ vs ENG, which was a high-scoring game, the rest of the other three games were not high-scoring games.

The last match played in Ahmedabad pitch was one between SA vs AFG, where the pitch was pretty sportive and did not aid spinners much.

It is generally a chasing ground as was evidenced in IPL games played at this venue. Also, two matches in this WC have been won while chasing. 260 is the average first-innings score here.
