Named after Tom Cruise & Hugh Jackman characters! Glenn Maxwell’s son gets special mention in record ton

Glenn Maxwell dedicated his fastest World Cup to Logan Maverick Maxwell after his heroics in AUS vs NED World Cup match.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell dedicated his fastest century in World Cup history to his newborn son Logan Maverick Maxwell and his wife Vini Raman. Maxwell’s carnage knock of 40-balls saw him surpass Aiden Markram to smash the fastest hundred in World Cup history. Speaking at the mid-inning break, Maxwell said that he was happy that his wife and son were able to see the special effort from him as his family was present in the stands.

After Maxwell’s surreal effort, his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore shared a heartwarming tribute for the 35-year-old. In the previous game against Pakistan, Maxwell was dismissed on a first-ball duck, but he roared back against New Zealand, hitting a half-century in 27 balls, before racing to the three-figure mark in the next 13 balls.

Riding on centuries from Warner and Maxwell’s blitzkrieg, Australia were able to post a massive total of 399/8. Dutch bowler Bas de Leede conceded 115 runs in his ten overs, the most expensive spell in World Cup history. The Netherlands were thus given a target of 400 to chase, but they were reeling at 69/5, suffering a middle-order collapse despite a cautious start as Australia marched towards their third consecutive win of the World Cup after losing their first two games.

“I was just trying to give ourselves a good platform at the end. You can certainly cash in on this ground with bat (batting first towards the end) and it seams under lights. Nice to get some rhythm finally in the tournament. Huge confidence booster. Some doubts do creep in when you are consistently not making runs. Hopefully I can ride forward from this. Pretty much the perfect game with bat and ball for us. Three wins now and certainly starting to get that momentum as a team,” said Maxwell.
