“Name one captain…”: Amit Mishra rubbishes claims of Rohit Sharma’s Sydney act being PR stunt

Amit Mishra rubbished claims of Rohit Sharma dropping himself from IND vs AUS 5th Test as a PR stunt and stated that he wasn't that kind of person

Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra opined that Rohit Sharma dropping himself for the IND vs AUS 5th Test wasn’t a PR stunt. The Indian captain had opted to sit out of the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy following a string of poor scores that earned flak from critics. While a section of fans and critics chose to call it a PR stunt, Mishra defended the Hitman and said that he wasn’t a player who would do such a thing for PR.

“Wasn’t PR activity”: Mishra backs Rohit Sharma

In a chat with Lallantop, Mishra asked if there was any better captain or player who could handle pressure better than Rohit at the moment. He admitted that Sharma was struggling at the moment but firmly believed that there was no player who can counter pressure like the Indian captain. He further asked to name one Indian captain who would have dropped himself from the side.

You tell me, who is better than him at the moment? In Test cricket, can anyone handle pressure like him? Although he is struggling but you name one player who can handle that pressure. Definitely, you back the young players and that’s what he has done. Name one captain who decided to drop himself in Australia,” Amit Mishra said.

Rohit’s decision to drop himself from IND vs AUS 5th Test saw many celebrities tweet in support of the Indian skipper. This forced many critics to believe that it was a PR stunt. However, Mishra thinks so otherwise. At that time, Rohit had explained that he had done so in the interest of the team, citing his poor form.

It wasn’t a PR activity; this is what I personally feel. His nature is not like that. I know him personally. He is not that kind of a player who will do such a thing for his PR,” Mishra explained.
