Naam Bade Par Darshan Chote: Sunil Gavaskar bashes Glenn Maxwell for poor returns in IPL 2024

Maxwell has scored just 32 runs at 5.33 in the six matches he's played so far. His bowling numbers are better, with 4 wickets to his name in the 9 overs he's bowled.

Who would have expected that Glenn Maxwell would be dropped after playing just six matches in the IPL 2024? The aggressive batter has been caught lacking. Such has been his performance that even fans are happy to see him not find a place in the XI. After his poor returns, Sunil Gavaskar took aim at the Aussie, claiming that he’s clueless against fast bowlers so far.

Unable to play fast bowling: Gavaskar on Glenn Maxwell

The Indian legend, who’s currently working as a commentator in the IPL 2024 season, didn’t hold back. While talking with Star Sports, he said:

“He has been unable to play fast bowling, period. Balls bouncing to his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can whack every ball below his waist height but not the ones above that.”

“In India, the weather till April 20 favours fast bowling on Indian tracks. And when the pacers will reap success, Maxwell will surely find himself at the receiving end. It is just as we say in Hindi, “Naam Bade Par Darshan Chote”

He didn’t just criticize Maxwell, but other foreign stars as well, who, like the Aussie all-rounder, have failed both with the bat and the ball.

“And it’s not just Maxwell. Several big-ticket players are finding it difficult to read bowling. So when he gets out in the match, the balls that remain low, he will score against them,” he further added.
