Mumbai Indians trick LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka into buying Shamar Joseph at IPL 2025 auction

Shamar has played just one match, for the Lucknow Super Giants after coming in as Mark Wood's replacement.

Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) owner Akash Ambani outfoxed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The teams were the only ones to show interest in buying Shamar Joseph. The West Indian pacer was with LSG last season but didn’t do much. MI was the lone team to put up a bid at his base price of Rs 75 lakh.

MI outfox LSG

Shamar was sold, but LSG put up their Right to Match (RTM) paddle. As soon as they decided to do so, MI pulled out. What usually happens is that the team hikes up the price but MI chooses not to. Had MI jacked up his price to, let’s say, Rs 1.25 crore, LSG might have decided they didn’t want him and hurt MI’s bank balance, but Mumbai one-upped them and forced them to buy Shamar.
