When Bangladesh play cricket, expect some friction. They’ve made Sri Lanka their sworn enemies and don’t spare any other country either. Playing in the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test, their players were turned on as India were 3 wickets down in the first ten overs. Their bowlers especially Hasan Mahmud were breathing fire, and the fielders were naturally chirpy.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant were building an important partnership, and Bangladesh were eagerly looking for a 4th wicket. In the 16th over of the match, the southpaw duo decided to take a quick single, but Jaiswal sent Pant back, deeming it to be too risky. The field at gully threw the throw despite that, and it ricocheted off Pant’s pad towards mid-wicket.
Pant and Jaiswal ran a quick single, but Bangladesh wasn’t happy as the ball had deflected off Pant. Liton Das, his counterpart, was extremely unhappy. The two wicketkeepers engaged in a long chat with Pant, who was heard saying, “Usko feko na bhai, mujhe kyu mar rhe ho (ask the fielder to throw it correctly; why is he hitting me)?”
It’ll be fun to see what sort of treatment Pant gives to Liton Das when he comes to bat later. The Indian keeper is quite chatty behind the stumps but is more cheeky rather than abusive.
