MS Dhoni might walk out to play at the Wankhede stadium for the last time in the IPL as MI take on CSK on Sunday

Perhaps, for the one last time, the crowd at Wankhede stadium will get to see the legendary MS Dhoni in action on Sunday! There’s no doubt about the cloud that surrounds MSD’s future in the IPL, the only format that the star is a part of in terms of playing active cricket. Ever since the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni’s retirement has been the eye of the storm in each season.

Will we see the last of Dhoni at Wankhede?

In 2022, one thought it would be Dhoni’s last IPL edition. He came back stronger in 2023 to help CSK life the IPL trophy for the fifth time, equaling MI’s record. Once again he was asked the same question on retirement, and despite wearing knee braces and a colling pack, a confident ex-Indian skipper said definitely once again. And here he is in IPL 2024, having relinquished the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, once again leaving fans wondering if this is the last time they will see the legend!

Now, as CSK take on MI in the first El Clasico of IPL 2024 on Sunday, the fans at Wankhede might see the last of MS Dhoni at the iconic venue. After all, who can ever forget the goosebumps moment when Dhoni struck a six off the last ball to ‘finish the game off in style’ in the finals against Sri Lanka in 2011 of help India lift their last World Cup.

So far in IPL 2024, MS Dhoni has graced the fans with his presence by walking out to bat in 3 innings out of the five games CSK has played so far. In the very first game, MSD turned the clock back to play an entertaining 37-run knock against Delhi Capital. In the next two innings, he only managed to make 1 run in the game.
