MS Dhoni: With no fifties in Chennai since 2019, fans crave for MSD special vs GT

CSK vs GT: MS Dhoni had last scored a fifty in IPL, in 2022, while his last fifty in Chennai came in 2019 vs Rajasthan Royals.

MS Dhoni might have done his bit, as far as his captaincy for the Chennai Super Kings is concerned, but from the fans’ point of view, they never get enough when it comes to his batting. Over the years, he usually tends to bat in the lower-order, promoting other players, and his numbers have dropped down considerably in the last few seasons.

The Chennai stalwart has played 251 matches and scored 5082 runs at an average of 38, including 24 fifties. But last year in 2023, his returns were scanty. In the 16 matches, he scored 104 runs at an average of 26. In fact, what’s surprising is that Dhoni has only one fifty to his name since the 2020 edition, or in the last 61 matches. That’s too few for the ardent CSK and Dhoni fans.

Chepauk Wants Runs from MS Dhoni

Much to the dismay of the Chennai fans, MSD hasn’t scored a fifty at the Chepauk Stadium since 2019. He had scored a solid 75 from 46 balls against Rajasthan Royals in March that year. Since then, his highest score at the venue is only 44.

Considering Dhoni has already relinquished the captaincy, this might well be his last season. Although at the start of IPL 2024, head coach Stephen Fleming had revealed that he would play the full season, but the fans would want to see their favorite cricketer in full swing., at least once.

The match against GT would be an opportunity for MSD to score some runs, if at all he gets a chance with enough balls to play.
