MS Dhoni was not always captain cool, reveals ex-CSK teammate S Badrinath

MS Dhoni led CSK in 235 matches over a span of 15 years, and ended up winning 142 of those and losing 90.

There are stories about how cool former India and CSK skipper MS Dhoni was for the majority of the time when he was leading his sides. He is fondly remembered as ‘Captain Cool’ Dhoni, who would steer the team out of trouble if the going got tough. But then, in the last couple of years, the fans have seen the other side of him, where he would get angry with the players.

When Dhoni Kicked Bottle in Anger

Dhoni’s former teammate at the CSK, S Badrinath revealed in an exclusive interview with InsideSport, that the custodian would lose his cool sometimes, but never in public. He remembered an instance where the CSK lost to RCB in a low-scoring match, and how Dhoni kicked the water bottle hard, in anger.

“He is also a human…he has lost his cool,” Badrinath said. “But that has never happened on the field. He would never let the opposition know that he had lost his cool. In this match against RCB in Chennai, we were chasing 110 odd. We lost wickets in a cluster there and we ended up losing the match.

“I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble. I was LBW. So, I was standing inside the dressing room, and he was coming inside, where there was a small water bottle. MS just kicked it out of the park. We all just couldn’t make eye contact with him,” Badrinath said.
