MS Dhoni to retire after CSK vs RR? Verdict soon as fans wait with bated breaths

MS Dhoni has played 262 matches for CSK since 2008, and has led to them to five IPL trophies. He could well be playing his last match at Chepauk.

Just prior to the all-important RR vs CSK match in Chennai on Sunday, a special alert from the latter came in on X. It was a ‘plain and simple’ message reading, “Requesting the Superfans to Stay back after the game! Something special coming your way!” As soon as the announcement was made on social media, not just the CSK fans, but cricket fans all over started speculating.

Speculating that it had something to do with former skipper MS Dhoni. While the alert had no mention about MSD, but it is understood, that it was about ‘Thala’ only. What else explains this cryptic message. After all, Dhoni is 42, batting really low in the line up, not the skipper anymore, went through a knee surgery last year, and might just be nursing a tear in his calf.

Hope Against Hope, That MS Dhoni Stays

Fingers crossed, the next three-four hours are going to be the longest for MS Dhoni and CSK fans, who would be waiting with baited breaths as to what announcement would come at Chepauk. It could well be his last at the fortress..although, fingers crossed, there would be hope against hope, that Dhoni will say, ‘I will play another year’.

For the record, Dhoni has played 262 matches for the Chennai Super Kings since 2008, when he joined the team in the first season itself. In those matches, he has scored 5218 runs, at an average of 39, including 24 fifties. Most importantly, he has led the team to five titles in the past.
