Former Australia cricketer Michael Clarke believes that MS Dhoni is the best finisher the game has ever seen and that, despite popular belief, he does not need to bat up the order. Speaking on Star Sports prior to the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders game, Clarke expressed his opinion that MS Dhoni should stay his team’s finisher and does not require more balls to be played, despite the fact that the great cricketer demonstrated his impeccable form while batting against CSK.
In their first game away from home in Vizag, MS Dhoni struck out Delhi with an incredible innings. Batting in position no. 8, the 42-year-old Dhoni turned in a magnificent cameo, hitting 37* off just 16 balls on a track that had problems for players like Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja. In contrast, supporters urged that Dhoni play more in what may be his final Indian Premier League season.
Given that Dhoni’s years in elite cricket were coming to an end, Clarke stated it was time for the younger players in the CSK squad to take the field. Following the 2019 World Cup semi-final defeat to New Zealand, the wicketkeeper announced the end of his international career and has only participated in the Indian Premier League.

“He doesn’t need to. That’s never been his role in any format of the game. There might have been occasions when he goes up the order. But, generally, he is a finisher. He is probably the best finisher the game has ever seen. So he doesn’t have to change that. The other thing about having MS Dhoni in your team, that should give the players in front of him feel confident, and maybe take a few risks a little bit earlier. He has got enough jobs, and he has done it for a long period of time. It’s time for other players to step up,” Michael Clarke said while speaking on Star Sports.
