MS Dhoni says no to heavy bats in IPL 2025, shaves off 20 gm from each willow

MS Dhoni had an exceptional IPL 2024, where he scored 161 runs in 14 matches for CSK at a strike-rate of 220.

No matter what, CSK’s MS Dhoni is the most talked-about player before any season, and IPL 2025 will be no different. This time around though, the buzz is around his heavy bat though. The 43-year-old Dhoni is known to use quite a heavy log of wood, to dispatch all the bowlers out of the park. But this season holds something different for him.

MS Dhoni Changes Bat Weight for IPL 2025

As per a report in the New Indian Express, MS Dhoni might shave off some weight from his bat for IPL 2025. He is quite used to using a bat around 1200 gm since his U-19 days, and in his prime used bats of 1300 gm as well.

“Four bats have been delivered to Dhoni recently by Sanspareils Greenlands Pvt. Ltd, the cricket equipment company from Meerut,” a source told the publication. MSD’s ex-teammate Suresh Raina also confirmed of the development during the India vs Pakistan match on Sunday.

No Clarity on MSD Joining Date for CSK Camp

“Each bat weighs around 1230 grams with the same shape as before,” added the source. On the other hand, his ex-teammate from junior and senior domestic matches said, “His bats were always heavier than ours.”

Having said that, there is no clarity on when will Dhoni start training with the team. Earlier, there were reports that he would join the team in Feb end. “The schedule of training has not been finalised yet. Anyway, the MA Chidambaram Stadium cannot be used for training purposes till March 9 as the BCCI has given strict instructions to maintain the venue in optimal conditions,” a source from CSK management told this daily.
