The question of his future has followed MS Dhoni throughout the IPL 2023, but the CSK skipper is keeping his cards close to his chest. Into his 40s, the ongoing tournament was expected to be Captain Cool’s final swansong in front of the home crowd in Chennai.

Speculation still persists, with Dhoni himself hinting at the same following CSK’s trip Eden Gardens last week. While the 41-year-old then said the crowd wanted to say goodbye,  today he went back on his comments.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also revealed earlier this week that Dhoni had made no communication regarding his retirement.  When asked if MS Dhoni had mentioned retirement to him, Fleming responded, “No, he hasn’t indicated anything.”

However, whether Dhoni can physically sustain the rigours of the IPL remains to be seen. The veteran will be 42 next season. While he remains the fittest around, he is battling a knee injury. Dhoni also has batted frugally,  coming in at the absolute end of the innings.
