Scammers are always coming up with new ways to deceive people, and this time, they’ve targeted fans of cricket legend MS Dhoni. A fan received an Instagram message claiming to be from Dhoni, asking for ₹600 because he was stuck in Ranchi without his wallet. The message was meant to sound like a personal plea, with the scammer saying he’d pay back the money once he got home.
MS Dhoni needs ₹600 to get home?
“Hi, I am MS Dhoni, I am messaging you from my private account. I am in Ranchi outskirts and I have forgotten my wallet. Can you PhonePe me ₹600 so I can return home by bus, will send back once I get home,” the message sent by the scammer read.
To add to the deception, the scammer included a photo of MS Dhoni, pretending it was a selfie taken just before he got into trouble. He even used the popular CSK slogan, “Whistle Podu,” to make the message seem authentic. The scammer clearly hoped that Dhoni’s fame and reputation would trick fans into sending money without thinking twice.
Beware of such scams
These kinds of scams are nothing new, but they can be pretty convincing. Scammers often create accounts that look similar to the real deal, with familiar usernames and profile pictures. If you get a message that asks for money or personal details, be cautious. Don’t send money or respond until you’ve verified the sender’s identity through a trusted source.
