MS Dhoni farewell at Chepauk? Thala’s own prediction could come true on May 12

Dhoni has played the most matches as a player, led CSK in 226 matches, and is undeniably the biggest IPL star of all time.

Will MS Dhoni retire on May 12? Will we see cricket’s biggest icon leave the sport after the CSK vs PBKS at the MA Chidambaram Stadium? Three years ago, talking at a Chennai Super Kings event, Thala promised that he’d try everything he could to play his final T20 game in Chennai.

MS Dhoni’s hopes to retire at the Chepauk

“I’ve always planned my cricket. The last home game (ODI) I played was in my hometown of Ranchi. So hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it is next year or in five years, we don’t really know,” MS Dhoni said at the CSK event in 2021.

Perfect farewell will have to wait for Dhoni?

Already struggling with a leg injury, the end seems near for the IPL legend. And going by Dhoni’s own words, the chances of him leaving the sport on May 12 are high. All that stands between fans bawling their eyes out is CSK’s success. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led franchise is currently third on the points table and is all set to make the playoffs.

But if they were to lose their next two fixtures, they’d find themselves out of the reckoning. That means that MS Dhoni will retire from the sport and have the chance to bid the Chennai crown adieu for the last time.
