Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has arrived in Chennai to join pre-IPL 2024 practice camp. Dhoni was supposed to join from March 1. However, he was busy attending Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding bash in Jamnagar.
He has had bits and pieces of practice since his knee injury. However, he is 100% fit now and the camp will help him get back into the groove. It is likely to be Dhoni’s last season even though there is no official confirmation on that yet. Dhoni has however broken his social media silence hinting at a new role.
MS Dhoni’s future
There has always been a mystery around MS Dhoni and his future. While he did pass on the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, it only lasted 8 matches before he returned to lead the side. Now, within the team, there are not many options. Ben Stokes seemed a potential candidate but that gamble did not work out well due to his injury struggles.
However, with IPL 2025 heading to a mega auction, Chennai Super Kings will need a squad overhaul. And that is when MS Dhoni is likely to pass on the baton.

Will MS Dhoni retire during IPL?
It all depends on how Dhoni’s body holds up during the gruelling IPL 2024 campaign. With Dhoni around, he can mentor someone like Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad as the next captain. However, Dhoni promised another year to fans and that is likely to be the case.
The former India captain could play the full season before calling it a time. However, an official comment is awaited from both CSK and MS Dhoni.
“I do not think this will be his (Dhoni’s) last season. He is still fit. I think he will play one or two more seasons. He will definitely play one more season. The reason is he is fit,” Paramjit Singh, MS Dhoni’s childhood friend, told One Cricket.
