Everyone is tired of talking about MS Dhoni’s retirement from IPL.. some claim it’s happening this year, while some are just unsure. Recently, CSK coach Stephen Fleming had opened up on the topic, and cleared the air, that he is good enough to play more. He also cautioned, that he didn’t have a word with MS Dhoni on the same.
MS Dhoni Not Retiring for Now
But speaking on the Raj Shamani podcast, MSD himself addressed the issue. Thala, as he is known countrywide, said, that he is still to take a call if he would play in IPL 2026 or not. “I am still playing the IPL and one year at a time. I am 43, by the end of this IPL season, I will be 44 in July. So I have 10 months to decide whether I want to play one more year and it’s not me deciding; it’s my body, whether you can play or not,” he said on Raj Shamani’s podcast.
Will Take a Call Before IPL 2026
While he has been excellent behind the wickets, batting seems to be a major issue. In the four matches this year, he has returned with scores of 0, 30, 16, 30. He was first criticised for batting at No. 9 vs RCB, and then for his approach vs DC, while chasing 184. He was slow to get off the blocks, and scored 30 in 26 deliveries.
During the CSK vs DC match, there was a speculation that he could be playing his last, since his parents were also present at the venue. But that wasn’t to be.. as he will now play PBKS on April 8.
