An exciting year is coming to an end. The year was kicked off by the shortest Test match in history in Cape Town and ended with a last session thriller in Melbourne. One thing was common in both: incredible bowling performances. Batters had a tough time in Test cricket, but it’s the other way around in the other two formats, ODIs and T20Is. As 2024 comes to a close, let’s look at the most successful bowlers who took the most wickets in 2024.
Top 3 wicket-takers of 2024
Jasprit Bumrah
Not a shock that the world’s best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is on top of the list when it comes to wickets taken in 2024. He averaged 13.76 and had an economy of 3.06 despite playing T20I as well. He has ended as the highest wicket-taker in Tests, and his stats in the T20 World Cup 2024 were 15 wickets at 8.26 with an economy of 4.17.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Unlike Bumrah, all of Wanindu Hasaranga’s matches came in the white-ball cricket. The leg-spinner didn’t play many ODIs against top sides but dominated every team he bowled against in T20Is, his best format.
Taskin Ahmed
Taskin Ahmed was one of the best bowlers in the world in 2024. He was up there in all formats, but T20Is proved to be his best due to the sheer number of matches he played. But when given a chance, he was a handful in Test and ODI cricket.

Most wickets for India in 2024
Apart from Bumrah, three of the other four top wicket-takers for the India cricket team were spinners. Ravindra Jadeja took 37 wickets fewer than Bumrah in just 6 fewer innings. Recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t have the best of years but still is placed at third. His replacement, Washington Sundar, is just one spot below, while workhorse Mohammed Siraj takes the fifth spot with 40 scalps.
