India might have lost the ICC World Cup 2023 finals, but that didn’t have a single dent in the TV viewership market. In fact, the India vs Australia World Cup Final clocked 30 crore cricket fans witnessing the game thereby making it the most watched event in Indian Television history. The Cricket World Cup 2023 has broken a plethora of records, both in terms of in-game stats and in terms of viewership.
The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah took to social media to reflect on the good news. He claimed 30 crore fans watched the World Cup final while a total of 13 crore fans watched the game on digital platforms.
“Peak TV Concurrency also reached a historic high of 13 Crore (peak digital concurrency was 5.9 Crore, also a world record),” wrote Shah on Social Media.
Despite India’s hurtful loss, Shah has thanked the countless fans who have shown their pride and dedication to the Indian Cricket Team. He went on to claim that he was humbled upon witnessing such a huge response.
World Cup extravaganza
Not only did the fans watch the matches on TV and digital platforms, but the ICC World Cup 2023 broke another record which makes the recently concluded tournament, the highest-attended event. The International Cricket Council (ICC) claimed that the number of fans attending the World Cup this year has surpassed the records that were set in the previous editions.
A total of 1.25 million fans turned to stadiums to witness World Cup matches in India. There was much chatter in the first week of the tournament that fans were absent during the matches. But as the tournament progressed, fans started turning up in numbers while all of India’s matches witnessed full house audiences.
