Jos Buttler is one of the greatest run-scoring seasons in IPL history and the Rajasthan Royals star broke a plethora of records with his exploits on Friday. Chasing 158, Buttler single-handedly got his team over the line scoring an unbeaten 106, his fourth century of IPL 2022. The RR opener became only the second batsman to score 4 centuries in a season after Virat Kohli.

Buttler also now has five IPL hundreds to his name, the second-most in the history of the tournament tied with Virat Kohli, while Chris Gayle leads all players with six to his name. It is also the joint most centuries for a franchise, with Virat Kohli’s five also coming with one team, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Incidentally, Buttler’s fifth hundred on Friday took him past the 800-run mark, making him only the third after Warner and Kohli to achieve that feat. Warner and Kohli both did so in 2016, with the latter smashing a record breaking 973 runs, while Warner finished second with 848. Buttler’s century took his tally to 824 for the season.

While Virat Kohli’s run tally would be a stretch for Buttler, the Englishman could very well breach Warner’s tally, needing only another 25 in his final game of the season to go past the Australian southpaw. Rajasthan would hope that Buttler can continue his good form and get them to their first title since 2008, as Warner did for Sunrisers in 2016.
