Most fifers in ODIs ft. Mohammed Shami

Always a wonderful pacer, Mohammed Shami added another big achievement to his list with his impressive five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in the CT 2025. Shami now equals the legendary Wasim Akram.

Made his ODI debut in January 2013 against Pakistan, and since then, there has been no looking back for Mohammed Shami. Now, this amazing pacer has been stealing the show recently in the ongoing Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh, where he clinched his 200th wicket in just 104 games, becoming the fastest Indian to achieve this feat. What makes this achievement even more special is that, in the same match, he took a five-wicket haul, dismissing some important Bangladesh batters, adding another fifer to his cabinet. Now, he has a total of six fifers, placing him alongside legendary Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram. First, let’s take a look at where Shami stands in this notable list.

With a total of six five-wicket hauls, Mohammed Shami continues to showcase how incredible this superb bowler is, especially in the 50-over format. His bowling average of 23.83, along with an economy rate of just 5.57, is like icing on the cake. At the age of 34, which is typically not considered the peak age for many cricketers, especially fast bowlers, Shami is still showing his dominance.

As mentioned, Shami also reached 200 wickets, making him the eighth Indian bowler to achieve this figure in ODIs.

When we look at the list of Indian bowlers, it is the legendary former spinner Anil Kumble who holds the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian in ODIs, with 334 wickets. Following him are Javagal Srinath with 315 wickets, Ajit Agarkar with 288, Zaheer Khan with 269, Harbhajan Singh with 265, Kapil Dev with 253, and Ravindra Jadeja with 226.
