TNPL 2023: The ongoing edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) witnessed a bizarre final ball bowled by Salem Spartans’ Abhishek Tanwar. The pacer, who was bowling the final over of the innings, delivered the most expensive ball in T20 cricket. Tanwar, who gave away just 8 runs in first five balls, conceded a staggering 18 runs in the final ball and shocked the crowd.
The nightmare for Abhishek Tanwar started on the last ball of the 20th over when he dismissed Sanjay Yadav. However, the umpire signalled a no-ball, resulting in a free-hit.
Tanwar then bowled another no-ball, allowing Sanjay Yadav to send the next delivery sailing over the boundary for a six. As if the damage wasn’t enough, Tanwar repeated his mistake and bowled yet another no-ball, granting Yadav two additional runs and allowing him to retain the strike. The calamitous over continued with Tanwar delivering a wide ball, immediately followed by another no-ball, leading to Yadav smashing another six.
As a result of this disastrous over, Chepauk Super Gillies set a mammoth target of 217 runs.
However, Tanwar managed to avoid breaking the record of most expensive ball bowled in cricket history.
The record still stands with Clint McKay who gave away 20 runs in one ball during 2012/13 Big Bash League match between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars.
Talking about the game, chasing 218 proved to be too much for the Salem Spartans who fell short and managed only 165 runs. The Chepauk Super Gillies emerged victorious with a resounding 52-run margin, kickstarting their TNPL campaign on a high note.
