More profitable than Ola! BCCI sees massive 116% surge in revenue after IPL boost

A report published by the BCCI for 2022-23 revealed that the board saw a massive 116% jump in revenue, thanks to IPL 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has earned Rs 5000 crore more from IPL 2023 than what it had received in 2022. The cash-rich board saw a 116% jump in its profits with a surplus of Rs 5120 crore from the league. As per BCCI’s annual report for 2022-23, the board’s total income saw a 78% year-on-year growth to Rs 11,769 crores.

BCCI sees massive jump in revenue, profits

The new media rights deal for the 2023-27 cycle, which is valued at Rs 48390 crores, is the key for BCCI’s massive surge in revenue. The board’s media rights income surged 131% to Rs 8,744 crore from IPL 2023 against Rs 3,780 crore from IPL 2022, as per the annual report.

The BCCI boasts of a ban balance of Rs 16493.2 crores in various savings, current accounts and FDs at the end of FY 23. In 2022, the board finished the year with Rs 10991.29 crores. BCCI has paid Rs 2038 crores as Goods and Services (GST) tax.

BCCI’s media rights income surged 131% to Rs 8,744 crores from IPL 2023 against Rs 3,780 crores from IPL 2022, as per the annual report. Earnings from franchise fees jumped to Rs 2,117 crores from Rs 1,730 crore. Meanwhile, the sponsorship revenue stood at Rs 847 crores.
