“More people watched Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy return than IND vs BAN Champions Trophy opener”

Though a significant Indian population resides in the United Arab Emirates, the excruciating heat of Dubai seemed to deter many fans from attending the match in person.

The attendance at the Dubai International Stadium for the IND vs. BAN Champions Trophy looked far less than Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy return at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Despite the stadium’s capacity of 25,000 fans, only a sparse number of spectators turned up for the highly anticipated IND vs. BAN Champions Trophy match. Images of the nearly empty stands left many on the internet puzzled, as Indian cricket matches typically draw large crowds.

No crowd in IND vs BAN Champions Trophy match

One social media user commented, “There is no crowd in Dubai because it’s hot and fans know that the Dubai Stadium doesn’t have the world-class spray facilities of Cuttack.”

Another user wrote, “Indians are considered as locals in Dubai, but on weekdays, the attendance is almost ZERO. You were just trying to humiliate the host nation yesterday and nothing else.#IndvsBan #BANvsIND #iccchampionstrophy2025 #ChampionsTrophy…”

The criticism continued with another user slamming the authorities: “The stadium is completely empty for the India match. I thought Indians were running cricket worldwide. It’s a half-day in the UAE too, still completely empty.”

At the time of writing this article, Bangladesh managed to score 119/5 in 32 overs. With Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy at the crease for the Bangla Tigers.
