With the IPL 2024 in full flow, everyday, without a fail, a new name keeps coming up in contention for the T20 World Cup. On Sunday, during the GT vs SRH match, it was India pacer Mohit Sharma who impressed with his performance, where he ended up with figures of 3/25 in four overs. Just by the looks of it, this isn’t really is earth-shattering performance, so what makes it stand apart?
Mohit Sharma’s Overall Impressive Numbers
This year in three matches, he has picked up six wickets. The important number here is, he’s given runs at an economy rate of 7.75. In short, in the 12 overs he has bowled, he has given only 93 runs. And it’s not a flash in the pan success for him. In 2023 edition, Mohit had picked up 27 wickets in 14 matches and was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Numbers Not Enough, Pace Plays Part too
While it is premature to be talking about T20 World Cup selection, Mohit could be a decent fit to the team. For someone who bowls around 130-135 kmph, and can take the pace off the ball, he could be excellent in USA & West Indies, where the WC will be played. He is definitely one of the better bowlers at death, who can contain runs, and is difficult to get away.
The USA, especially, will see drop in pitches, which most likely will be slow, and low, and it would be difficult to get him away. A decent IPL would also mean that Mohit would be high on confidence against most of the players in the world. So, it would only be fair, that Mohit Sharma is considered too. Whether he makes it or not, is a debate for another day.
