Mohammed Siraj became the 12th Indian pacer and 26th overall to pick 100 wickets in the Indian Premier League. Siraj, who played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2018 to 2024, was bought by Gujarat Titans in the player auction last November.
Siraj reached the milestone after dismissing the Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma inside the Powerplay on Sunday,
Head and Sharma were branded Travishek after their destructive approach in the Powerplay in IPL 2024; this year, they have been poor but those two wickets are still crucial.
Siraj back in form
Mohammed Siraj struck twice inside the Powerplay to first remove Travis Head and then pick the wicket of Abhishek Sharma.
It was an ordinary start to the season for Siraj who went 0 for 54 in GT’s opening defeat to Punjab Kings. He found some rhythm against Mumbai Indians with a 2-wicket haul before a fiery spell against RCB (3 for 19).
Before Siraj, Indian pacers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Sandeep Sharma, Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Ashish Nehra, Vinay Kumar, Zaheer Khan and Shardul Thakur reached the 100-wicket milestone in the IPL.
Mohammed Siraj debuted in the IPL in 2017 before shifting to RCB the following year where he enjoyed a good stint. His best season came in 2023 when he finished with 19 wickets from 14 matches.
