Shami’s friend reveals secrets about dark phase in pacer’s life after match-fixing allegations

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's friend has revealed that the former nearly ended his life over match-fixing allegations levelled against him

India pacer Mohammed Shami went through a dark phase few years ago when the BCCI launched a probe into alleged match-fixing claims involving Pakistan. A close friend of the pacer has now revealed that Shami was very distraught and even contemplated committing suicide. The veteran pacer was later given a clean chit by the commitee, bringing an end to his harrowing experience.

When Shami was inches close to ending life

Shami was accused of allegedly taking money from a Pakistani womean to fix matches by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. A complaint about domestic violence was also lodged by the pacer’s wife, making life more difficult for Shami. Speaking about one instance when the pacer was very close to ending his life, Shami’s friend recalls seeing the pacer standing at the edge of the balcony on the 19th floor.

“Shami was fighting with everything during that phase,” Umesh said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast.

“It also came in the news that he wanted to do something drastic that night [end his life]. It was around 4 AM in the morning when I got up to drink water. I was on my way to the kitchen when I saw that he was standing on the balcony. It was the 19th floor we were living in. I understood what happened,” he added.
