Mohammed Shami hasn’t been at his best since returning to international cricket. Speed doesn’t seem to be the issue, but the right-arm pacer is still looking for his rhythm. We have seen how dangerous he can be when on song. The 2023 ODI World Cup is the perfect example.
High expectations from Shami
Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy, which means that Shami will have to do the heavy lifting. The two other main pacers the India cricket team is taking (Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh) have a combined experience of 12 ODIs.
So, how will Shami play in Dubai? Former India fielding coach Robin Singh believes that the experienced campaigner would do well at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Currently serving as the head coach of MI Emirates in the ILT20, Robin knows how the pitch will react.

Shami expected to do well in the Champions Trophy
He thinks that despite dew coming into play, under the lights the ball will skid. This will help Mohammed Shami, who has impeccable control and near-perfect seam position. He will hit the right areas and will get the rewards. Shami has played in Dubai before. Although the format wasn’t ODI, the experience still counts.
“In the night, it has always shown a tendency to skid on. The dew is not extensive now, but it helps batting in the night. There will be runs for the taking. But if you’re a good fast bowler, at night, you can exploit those conditions. A good seam bowler, someone like Shami, will be a good bet in Dubai because he hits those right lengths and areas. Anyone who can hit the seam well and hit those areas will be reasonably successful,” Robin Singh told Indian Express.
