Mohammed Shami was battling injury during WC, uncertain for IND vs SA

Shami was India’s highest wicket-taker on the last tour to South Africa in 2021–22.

The India Cricket Team has departed for South Africa for the IND vs SA T20I series starting December 10. However, all eyes are set on the 2-match Test series as the first batch of Team India travels to Durban. Team India’s conquest to win a Test series in South Africa might have taken a hit even before the series started. While the last tour (2021–22) saw Rohit Sharma miss out due to injury, this time it could be Mohammed Shami.

“Mr. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment, and his availability is subject to fitness,” the BCCI said while announcing the squad for the India Tour of South Africa on November 30.

Following the new development, a senior BCCI official told InsideSport on Monday, “Shami will report to the NCA for an injury assessment before travelling to South Africa. It’s quite normal for pacers and all-rounders before travelling on away tours. His condition is not very serious and he is managing it.”

Mohammed Shami to miss the IND vs SA Test series?

Just 20 days before the Test series gets underway, concerns over Shami’s fitness have been raised. According to Cricbuzz, the Indian spearhead is suffering from an ankle injury. The pacer was dealing with the injury even during the ODI World Cup but decided to continue despite discomfort.

However, Shami’s desire to see the India Cricket Team lift the World Cup trophy may have given the India’s chances to win against the Proteas a hit.
